Maruti Suzuki India's parent Suzuki Motor Corporation has unveiled the fourth-generation Swift at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023 (Japan Mobility Show 2023). This new model, currently referred to as a concept, is expected to make its debut in the Indian market in 2024.

The Swift has been a significant model for Maruti, consistently leading sales charts in India. In FY24 (April-September), it sold 103,000 units, surpassing both the Baleno and the WagonR. In the previous fiscal (FY23), it was the fourth largest-selling car with 177,000 units sold, and the second largest in FY22 with 168,000 units sold.

The new Swift features a redesigned front end, including a new grille, headlamps, and bumper, along with new alloy wheels. The design leans towards a performance-oriented aesthetic. It also boasts advanced safety technologies such as dual sensor brake support, an adaptive high beam system, and a driver monitoring system. The interior has been revamped with a new dashboard layout, an updated infotainment system, a new panel for automatic climate control, and a fresh instrument cluster.

The current India-spec Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre K-Series Dual-Jet Dual-VVT petrol engine that delivers 90hp of max power and 113Nm of peak torque. It offers two transmission options -- a 5-speed manual transmission (MT) and a 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT). Additionally, it comes with a CNG option. These powertrain options are likely to be carried over to the Swift 2024.

The current Swift is priced between Rs 5,99,450 and Rs 9,03,000 (ex-showroom). However, with the introduction of the new Swift in 2024, prices are expected to increase.
