Beetlejuice is loose in Anchorage! Broadway Alaska prepares for musical
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The cast and crew for “Beetlejuice - The Musical” is finally ready to bring some “screamingly good fun” to Anchorage.
The show was canceled Wednesday due to some travel issues for the show, but the show will continue from Jan. 30 to Feb. 9.
The show, based on Tim Burton’s 1988 classic film, tells the story of Lydia Deetz, whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and a wacky demon in stripes.
CorBen Williams, a member of the ensemble, described the story from Deetz’s point of view.
“They want to discover their own journey when it comes to how they deal with grief,” Williams said. “It’s a beautiful story that really reconciles with how we all face that.”
Williams is from North Pole, Alaska, and he has been traveling for over two years bringing the show across North America, now finally arriving in his home state.
He also remembered what it was like for him coming to Anchorage’s Atwood Concert Hall when he was a child.
“I remember little me being in the house and being in and looking down and watching everyone, and of course with a different production,” he said, “but to now be at it from behind the scenes and to be looking outward, it’s a different perspective and it’s a different POV maybe a lot of people don’t get to experience and I’m very privileged that I get to be a part of that in that way.”
