The provocative and sharp-witted adult cartoon South Park has teased fans with a sneak peek of its upcoming season. The trailer promised a mishmash of satire targeting high-profile personalities and divisive issues, like Elon Musk's use of ketamine, strains between Canada and the U.S, and even France's notion of reclaiming the Statue of Liberty.
"Times have changed," declared a voiceover, introducing viewers to an enthralling glimpse into the latest episodes. Elon Musk, the renowned CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and noted ally of President Donald Trump, has garnered significant attention in both domestic and global political spheres. Despite this, his eccentric comments and erratic behaviors have earned him a somewhat infamous reputation online.
In the teaser, South Park character Randy Marsh was shown sniffing ketamine and engaging in discussions about ketamine, clearly alluding to the publiclization of Musk's relationship with the substance.
A clip from the episode showed him asking his daughter, "Shelly, have you been taking ketamine? Because I think it could really help you," following up with a cavalier comment to his wife, Sharon: "I'm just going to do some ketamine and f--- around with the government a little."
The last remark may have served as a reference to Musk's controversial dealings within the Trump administration. While rumors swirl about Musk's ketamine use, the tech billionaire has been open about his encounters with the substance, ensuring that it has always been in the context of medical supervision.
In a 2024 interview with Don Lemon, Elon Musk shared his battles with depression and how ketamine has been beneficial. "There are times when I have a sort of a... negative chemical state in my brain, like depression, I guess, or depression that's not linked to any negative news, and ketamine is helpful for getting one out of the negative frame of mine," Musk disclosed to Lemon.
In their latest satirical endeavor, show creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone have taken another jab at the deteriorating relationships between the U.S. and its allies. The teaser previewed Canadian forces charging through a devastated battlefield and French ships tussling with the Statue of Liberty, while other scenes depicted characters catching bird flu and juggling air traffic control as planes plummeted around them.
Reflecting on the changes since South Park's last season two years ago, Parker and Stone, who stayed away from the political fray during the 2024 election, shared: "We've tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing-it's such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance." Additionally, Parker noted, "I don't know what more we could possibly say about Trump."
However, the teaser for the new season hinted that they've found plenty of material to mine for the forthcoming episodes, which are set to premiere on July 9 on Comedy Central.
