As you might have heard by now, Toyota finally got the memo it needs to imbue some excitement into its cars. Two steps have been made in this direction, namely the confirmation that an all-new sports car platform is coming and the introduction of the GR family in Japan. Of course, Lexus will follow the same course as Toyota, and the LS F sedan is likely in the pipeline.
There’s been much talk about the F member of the LS family, which shouldn’t be confused with the better-handling and sporty-looking LS F Sport. Our spy photographers recently caught a glimpse of a test mule doing its thing in sunny Spain, and all in all, V8 power is a must if the LS wishes to be taken seriously.
Aside from the rumors and spy pics, Lexus adds fuel to the fire by confirming an “all-new LS flagship” will headline the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show alongside a concept car. Nothing much is known about the design study, though the Japanese motoring media expects the mysterious model to be the pre-production version of the RX mid-size sport utility vehicle in seven-seat form.
The release Lexus published in advance of the big reveal (October 25) doesn’t give any details on what to expect from the concept or the “all-new LS flagship,” though it’s not hard to imagine what follows after the current range of V6-powered powertrains. If it’s the LS F that will make its world premiere in Tokyo, Lexus will finally have something to rival the Mercedes-AMG S 63.
Under the hood of the full-size luxobarge with enhanced suspension and steering, the engine everyone expects is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 with God knows how much power. Various reports peg the displacement between 4.0- and 4.4-liters, whereas 600 ponies should do the trick against the German establishment.
And now, let's wait and hope for the best from Lexus’ part.
