Ahead of its launch tomorrow, key details have been revealed about Toyota Raize compact SUV. Raize comes in a sporty, youthful package and offers a range of features across comfort and convenience, tech and safety. As a rebadged version of Daihatsu Rocky SUV, Toyota Raize utilizes the DNGA platform. A cost effective derivative of Toyota’s advanced TNGA modular architecture, DNGA is flexible and has been especially developed for Asian markets.

Dimensions of both Raize and Rocky are the same – 3,995 mm in length, 1,695 mm in width and height of 1,620 mm. Raize comes with a spacious 369-litre boot, featuring a two-level storage space. The second level is located below the floor, which keeps it hidden from normal view. Turning radius is 5 meters.

Even though Raize and Rocky share common features and components, they have distinctive front and rear bumpers. Raize comes with a large trapezoidal grille with mesh design, LED headlamps and DRLs, edgy fog lamps, 17-inch alloy wheels, floating D-pillar and a prominent bumper with thick cladding at the lower level.

In terms of safety, Raize is equipped with advanced features such as dual airbags, curtain airbags, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, LED headlamps with adaptive driving beam, smart parking system, cornering lamps, and pedestrian detection system. These features are expected to be offered as standard across all variants of Raize.

There will be eight mono colour options and at least three dual-tone options. Mono colour options are – Shining White Pearl, Black Mica Metallic, Bright Silver Metallic, Fire Quartz Red Metallic, Natural Beige Mica Metallic, Mustard Yellow Mica Metallic, Laser Blue Crystal Shine, Turquoise blue mica metallic. White and Turquoise blue colour option is charged extra amount of 33,000 Yen (Rs 21,500). Three dual tone colour options are – Silver with black roof, white with black roof and Turquoise blue with black roof. Dual tone white black is charged extra amount of 77,000 Yen (Rs 50,000) while the other two are charged at 55,000 yen (Rs 35,850).

On the inside, Raize comes with faux brushed-aluminium accents on the steering wheel and AC vents. The 3-spoke steering wheel is the same as that of Daihatsu Rocky. Top-spec variants of Raize will be equipped with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with display for reverse camera and fully-digital cockpit-like instrument cluster.

Both Raize and Rocky use the same 1.0-litre, three-cylinder, 12-valve turbo-petrol engine that generates max power of 98 hp at 6,000 rpm and max torque of 140.2 Nm of torque at 2,400-4,000 rpm. Engine is mated to a CVT unit. A 6-speed manual is expected to be introduced at a later date. The 2WD variant has fuel efficiency of 18.6 kmpl whereas the 4WD variant delivers 17.4 kmpl.

As of now, there are no indications that Raize will be launched in India. However, considering the immense demand and popularity of compact SUVs in the country, the possibility of Raize coming to India cannot be denied completely.
